I owe the following discussion to a young scientist who is the co-author of a
book entitled "New Variant to Meet Human Needs" where the authors discuss a
vision for an ultimate solution to the issue of social justice in human society
(1).
Three weeks ago, the speeches in support of UBI
(Universal Basic Income)
by a number of technology leaders was reviewed
(2). Two days ago, an article appeared in SingularityHub
entitled "Is Universal Basic Income a Solution to Tech Unemployment?" where the
author reports on an interesting experiment of UBI in Manitoba of Canada (3).
The question that needs to be raised is not about Manitoba per se,
because specific conditions in any particular experiment, may or may not
represent a rule, but a more general question to ask, is
whether UBI will end up creating more
impoverished neighborhoods in the world or it will help the poor
to rise to a new middle class.
In view of this author, the interim solution to the issue of social justice,
which was discussed in 2005, is to come up with a comprehensive plan for
Alternative Income (4).
