Forty second anniversary of Iran's 1979 Revolution is in a few days. Always these days I remember the beautiful poetry of Coleridge entitled 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.' The poems were the expression of feelings of a generation that had felt the calamity with their heart and soul, using the allegory of killing the albatross by the sailors in a ship. Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) the English poet and critic was from a generation who had seen the atrocities that the French Revolution had committed against its own children. This may be interesting as one looks at the Iranian Revolution. Many of Coleridge's friends became fascist anti-revolutionaries after that experience. But some became liberal. Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner expresses the regrets, apology, and asking for forgiveness by the ones who were tired of the excesses of that Revolution, in a beautiful poetic expression! I need to note that not all who had the same experience thought the same as in Iran, we should say the same that we have 'Fifty-Seventies and Fifty-Seventies'!
Hoping for a democratic and secular futurist republic in Iran,
