It's midnight now and I woke up
and can't sleep. My problem is not just thinking about the situation in Iran,
but from afar, I worry every minute about the health of my family and the people
of Iran, Israel, USA, and the world in this midst of war, when for years I have
written to
prevent this war from happening and
shouted as much as I could! Right now I'm worried about whether
or not I'll have a
PET scan for my cancer in the next week or
two because I'm wondering if insurance will cover the procedure, and a friend is
advising me to be careful not to get into more debt later, which would mean I'd
have to forgo the
procedure, and another friend is trying to
help financially, and I'm grateful to both of them for their sympathy. But the
reality is that these medical costs are truly staggering, and we cannot blame
the government alone for refusing to cover the costs of many of these
procedures, and as a result, many patients are left with the burden of not only
living but also dying. Rather, they are willing to die and forgo treatment,
leaving behind debts for their survivors. Many movies have been made about this,
where people with incurable diseases prefer to die rather than incur more debt
for themselves and their survivors.
However, I was thinking so much thanks to
Ray
Kurzweil, that all these years, in addition to humanity, he has
insisted on the issue of *abundance*
as a real solution to the problem of
social justice, and has made a real effort that is closer to
reality for justice than the centuries of promises of socialists. It's very
simple. In my father's time, if you wanted to buy a watch, you had to pay a
fortune and buy a Swiss Omega watch. Today, you go to Walmart and buy a much
better watch for a fraction of the cost. The same can be said about smartphone
phones and, in fact, many other products and even glasses that are sold at
Walmart. The entire Walmart chain store business is based on this model,
which today even has an eye doctor and an optician, meaning services that in
the past, like a PET scan today, were exorbitantly expensive. I hope the Walmart
model will also be used for other medical needs. Indeed, *abundance*, more than
any socialist promise brings us closer to social justice, instead of, in these
situations, to expect our loved ones to either reduce their own comfort and help
us, or to forgo treatment like some patients who don't want to leave more debt
to their survivors. I hope that
artificial intelligence and
nanotechnology will develop further, which will be a great help
to abundance and therefore social justice, instead of making us feel more sad in these cases or getting
angry with each other when we really can't do anything for ourselves and our
loved ones.
Hoping for a democratic and secular futurist
republic in Iran,
