Two days ago United States strongly condemned a reported arson attempt on the Tomb of Esther & Mordechai in Hamedan of Iran which followed a threat last February against the site. Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) has denied the reported arson attempt. In the past, I have condemned a number of times in Persian the attempts of arson by IRI agents on the Tomb of Esther & Mordechai in Iran. I visited the Tomb of Esther & Mordechai in Hamedan, two years before Iran's 1979 revolution and it was respected by all people in Hamedan and it is an important historical site. In the first year after the 1979 Revolution, Hojatoleslam Sadegh Khalkhali tried to destroy Persepolis and had a mob accompanying him to Shiraz and although the late Nosrat Amini, the governor of Fars province at that time, was able to stop them from destroying Persepolis, but the mob destroyed many of Iran's historical sites. The Jewish community has a long history in Iran and these acts of violence against our Jewish minority and Iran's historical heritage are condemned by all Iranian progressive people. Today Ms. Shokooh Mirzadegi of Iran's Pasargad Heritage Foundation has posted an article condemning this shameful act of IRI mob and I wish the best for Ms. Mirzadedgi and the Pasargad Heritage Foundation in all they do to stop crimes against Iranian people of all religions and beliefs, and in support of Iran's historical and cultural heritage.
