In the last six months on several occasions different aspects of shrinking of middle class was discussed (1). At least in the U.S., it is a fact that in the last 20 years, middle class has been shrinking significantly. The question is whether this trend will continue in the U.S. and global economy. As noted in details in August (2), Marxist theory was based on disppearance of middle class in Europe and when that prediction did not materialize in 20th Century, as Karl Popper put it, Marxist Economics fell to the status of a pseudoscience and was reduced to an ideology. If what we have witnessed in the first two decades of 21st Century regarding the shrinking of middle class continues in the post-industrial society, all economic assessments of 20th Century will change. True that we do not have organized labor as Marx saw to be the result of economic polarization, and even the current job categories are hardly unionized, but definitely political structures like traditional US Democratic Party will not work anymore and solutions like Bernie Sanders' Democratic Socialism may be the answer to such developments. Of course, it is too early to have the final verdict about the end of middle class in 21st Century and if an economic boom like we saw in the 1990's happens, we may see a revival of the middle class, but the current economic trends in the U.S. and even in countries like Iran point to shrinking of the middle class.

Hoping for a democratic and secular
futurist republic in Iran,
