Twenty two years ago on July 24, 2000, following an article I wrote on April 20, 2000 in the height of discussions in a Usenet newsgroup called SCI, about a new secular student movement in Iran that had started on July 9, 1999, i.e. ten years after a decade of wiping out the seculars in Iran, I quoted a poem from Ahmad Shamlou on SCI; Shamloo had died a day before on July 23, 2000! In the poem, Shamlou writes:

"My fear, however, is of dying in a land
Where the reward of gravediggers
Is greater
Than the freedom of humankind"*

This is the fear I wanted to share with my readers in an article I published last week entitled 'Warning to Iran's Left and Nationalists about Russia!'  I am not sure if I described my fear well, especially considering the protests and bloodshed we are currently witnessing in Iran on one side and the war in Ukraine on the other! What I am writing has nothing to do with Democrats or Republicans; policies of Biden or Trump! This is about tyranny and freedom, whether we are talking about killing of hungry people on the streets of Iran or the shameless attack of Russia of Putin on innocent Ukranian people in broad daylight!

Hoping for a democratic and secular futurist republic in Iran,
