These days with the return of my prostate cancer and currently in the middle of my two-month radiation therapy, I found a very interesting book to read: Sam Apple's 'Ravenous: Otto Warburg, the Nazis, and the Search for the Cancer-Diet Connection.' Otto Warburg was a Nobel Laureate continuing to do his cancer research during Hitler's regime and although he was Jewish and a homosexual living with his gay partner, stayed in Germany till the end of Fascist regime. It is said Hitler's mother had died of cancer and this is why Hitler paid particular attention to the research in this area of science. The book is not only very informative about cancer research at the time focused on metabolism (e.g. cancer cells in comparison to normal cells being ravenous!), but the book is also in a way entertaining about how Otto Warburg handled his situation with the Nazi officials bothering him! The latter reminded me of how the scientists working in Iran have handled their work in the last 40 years, although I do not consider Islamic Regime of Iran (IRI) as a fully totalitarian state and using the terminology of Iranian famous literary critic Faraj Sarkohi, I call IRI, a semi-totalitarian state as described in an article three years ago entitled :A Reply to Dr. Shahriar Ahy and Dr. Parviz Dastmalchi about totalitarianism and Islamic Regime!

Hoping for a democratic and secular futurist republic in Iran,
