Dear President Trump, Iran is
not North Korea and the
people's movement will determine what happens next in Iran, and this is
not just a cliché I am writing. The strategies like what the US pursued five
months ago in Iranian Nowruz holidays when images of you and Iran's
Prince Reza Pahlavi and
Empress Farah Pahlavi were
posted on the first page of VOA website reminded people of 1953 coup as if it is
the US that decides their future,
a message 180 degrees opposite to what you broadcasted on January 1, 2018 when
supporting Iran's December 2017 Uprising. Of course the intention was
to scare IRI leaders, that if they do not abide like Kim Jong-un, US will
replace them. Other US strategists support
Islamic
Reformists and mistake them with people's movement in Iran which is another
error. The Islamic Reformists of Iran are neither Gorbachev nor Deng Xiaoping,
and in the eyes of Iranian people, they are not a genuine opposition and
alongside the Islamic Fundamentalists, are playing good
cop/bad cop for the people, and the reaction of Iranian people is just like any prisoner
would respond to good cop/bad cop routines. That is all. US needs to treat Iranian
people's movement with respect, the same way France treated American people's
uprising in 1770's, supported it and did not try to force its will on the
American revolutionaries. Iran is in a
21st Century Revolution and
all dimensions of this upheaval are not even known yet, let alone its leadership
which could end up to be the likes of
Jefferson and Madison.
