P.S. Oct 1, 2017: Announcing Change of Position to Opposing any form of Federalism for Iran:

There are rumors that the goal of Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI), in Iraq, is to merge the two countries into one.  Although IRI officially rejects the independence of Iraqi Kurdistan and supports the integrity of Iraq, but it has kept very close relations with both Massoud Barzani and Jalal Talabani factions of Iraqi Kurds, as well as the Arab political and religious elite in Iraq's central government.  Iran's pan-iranists who are not pro-IRI and also reject separatism in Iran, have considered the independence of Iraqi Kurdistan as a stepping stone to create a Confederation of Greater Iran. There are factions in IRI that consider the unification of Iran and Iraq as an antidote to separatist movements inside Iran and Iraq. It is hard to predict the long term impact of such currents towards Iran-Iraq confederation, and unification of the two countries, which may even include Syria. The topic of Confederationism, and the danger of a civil war in its aftermath, were discussed eight years ago (1).

Hoping for a democratic and secular futurist republic in Iran,
